The Real Life Poets Inc. is a 501 c3 non-profit community service and mentoring organization focusing on mentoring young adults, encouraging good communication, and oratorical skills using spoken word poetry and the arts. We organize community programs, such as Operation Mustard Seed (OMS) Coats for the Cold, and OMS Annual Community Health Fair, and various workshops in order to fulfill our mission. We have facilitated workshops for The Birmingham C.A.N. Summer program, several within the Better Basics Enrichment Program, including workshops within their four HOPE centers, Jefferson County Library Cooperative’s Word Up student poetry slam workshops, and The Birmingham Mayors office and Department of Youth Services Kiddie Club. Because of the students interest and desire to continue writing and performing outside of the workshops we created a teen open Mic, Flow Tactics, hosted by teen artist the 3rd Saturday of every month.
Flow Tactics (Birmingham Public Library's youth poetry initiative) has produced a youth poetry slam team that has been invited to compete in an international youth poetry slam competition called Brave New Voices. Brave New Voices is the first poetry slam dedicated to youth in the world, and this is the first time a team from Alabama has been invited to compete. This year’s Brave New Voices Poetry Slam is in Chicago, Illinois. Real Life Poets is sending the slam team and coaches to compete in this event... Click HERE and donate today to help get us there!

"...Real Life Poets are heaven sent for my students! I was floored with the amount of poetic expression that they were able to bring out of my middle school students. The kids were engaged and excited, and were left with wanting more!" - Middle School Teacher
